4/25/2011 News from Mt. Si

Hi Family,
Doing good. Oh about my comp yes he has been out shorter time that I have. He's only been out for nine month not even a year, man if I still had that much time left I would slit my wrists and do push ups in salt water, just kidding, just kidding, figuratively speaking it would not be fun to be him and not me, and did I say he is also a district leader, and yes it has been very nice not having to make all the decisions so yeah lets see how long president will keep me junior, probably for this transfer only, and then I'll be senior again who knows what president is thinking these days great man.
Love ya,
Elder O'Brien

4/19/2011 News from Seattle 3rd!!!!

Hey family,
How's it going? Transfers were today and I got transferred hopefully to my last area in Mount Si in the Bellevue south zone. My new companion is Elder Van Den Akker he's a pretty cool kid so this should be a fun transfer, and he is also a district leader which means that I was put back as junior Comp YEAH!!!!!!! I hated being senior comp so now a lot of the weight has been taken off my shoulders.
Mom and Dad, I have given it a lot of thought these past few months and I would like it if you guys came and picked me up at the end of my mission, if that option is still open that is. One reason why is I have collected a lot of stuff over these last 20 months and it would be very expensive to ship it all home, if ya know what I mean. Also it would give me a chance to visit all my favorite families before going home, so if you guys are still okay with that, that is what I would like to do.
That is about it for this week.
Love ya all,
Elder O'Brien

Hey family,
Things are the same here, still tracting and finding people.
Elder Kikuchi of the seventy is going to be here in May, so we have a challenge from our mission president to find all the part-member families in our ward by then. We have about 22 families so a lot to work with.
Well anyways love ya all,
Elder O'Brien

4/4/2011 News from Seattle 3rd!!!!

Hey family,
Yeah I know my letters are short and I know that there isn't much to write it's because nothing is happening here in Seattle 3rd we seem to have hit a dry spot right now, we've got no investigators and so that means teaching members and tracting so that's all I have to report.
Conference was great my favorite talk was Elder Oaks talk and my all time favorite quote from him is "tracting into strangers will not build the kingdom of God, it will be through thoughtful discerning members bringing their friends to the gospel". Also there seemed to be a lot of speakers on getting married and since I am almost done with my mission I've been starting to think about that it's crazy that I only have five more months left. I love the mission and all, but I'm ready to come home and resume life, go to school find a wife and the rest is history. Another one of my favorite talks was the person who talked about doing and being. How we can just do things and it won't amount to anything unless we be that kind of person, so yeah that was my favorite talks this general conference.
Love ya,
Elder O'Brien

Hey family whats up,
Things are great here about the same, still working with the ward members.
Last Monday we went to Pikes Place Market and hung out and then played board games at a members house. This week we went to the temple and did initiatory which was a lot of fun, it has been awhile since I did those, so I thought I should do them. That's about it.
Love ya,
Elder O'Brien

2/28/2011 News from Seattle 3rd ward !!!!!!!!!

Hey family what's up,
Things are fun here, not a whole lot going on other than doing a whole lot of member lessons. So here in my ward we are doing a 12 week thing with families and come into their house every week and help them with missionary work, so far we have been doing great with them. So far we are doing it with 3 families and hopefully we will get more to do it with later on. Two of the families we have been doing now for about 8-9 weeks are coming along great, one of them has already invited their neighbor over for FHE a few times and they have had a lot of great experiences with doing that. Our other family has a relative that is reading the book of Mormon and we have been helping this family answer the questions of their relative. The 3rd family we just barely started last Thursday and they are really excited to start doing missionary work. Things are really starting to pick up with the members and everyone is getting way excited about missionary work, these past couple months we have been having a lot of missionary focused sacrament meetings, so that is extremely fun. Sorry I didn't report much on our little adventure nothing much happened there were a couple of elders in my zone who needed to get some stuff at a few stores so we where running all over the place getting all this stuff.
Yeah that's about it for this week.
Love ya much,
Elder O'Brien

Hey peeps what's up,
Life is still slow here still have no investigators to teach so we are still tracting and contacting a lot which sometimes get boring really fast, but today is gonna be fun we are going downtown and going to see some stuff so that should be fun. That's about it that I have to report. Happy Valentine Day and have a great week.
Love,
Elder O'Brien.

2/7/2011 News from Seattle 3rd!!!

Hey family what's up,
Life is going good and starting to pick up a little. We have a few promising potential investigators so hopefully we will have somebody to teach, as it is we are doing a lot of tracting and contacting which is very boring. Other than that nothing much has happened here. Anyways sorry it's so short.

Elder O'Brien

1/31/2011 News from Seattle 3rd ward !!!!!!!!!

Hey family how you?
Things are going good. The weather here is cold sometimes and rumors here is that it might be snowy, so yeah NOT!!!!!!!! The snow here is not at all the same as in Utah.
Oh and we moved out of our apartment and into another one, so this is why, the UW, university ward missionaries don't have a bus and they live a long way away from campus. So they had us switch with them which kinda was a bummer cause we are now 10 miles out of our area, instead of right in the middle, so yeah we got the short end of the stick way bad.
We had an investigator come to church yesterday, first time in six weeks, so that was great, it was an unexpected visitor, but very well welcomed all the same. Church was great, it was all about missionary work and making up your own ward mission plan. You guys should think about doing that, finding someone to share the gospel with and have the missionaries teach them, that would be awesome, right? So as a missionary I am asking will you find people for the missionaries to teach?
Love ya,
Elder O'Brien.

1/25/2011 News from Seattle 3rd ward !!!!!!!!!

Hey Family,
How are you all doing?
Things are great here. Transfers are today and neither of us are getting transferred so that is good. Elder Mellor has been in this area for a long time at the end of this transfer he will have been in this area for 10 and a half months which is really crazy.
About the fireside, Elder Whitney L Clayton of the Presidency of the seventy, and Elder Patrick Kearon of the Seventy, it was a great meeting with them both. We spent most of the time asking them questions, which was great, it was a very spiritual experience.
And now on to the underground tour, it was not very good at all. The tour guide was not very good, great actress, but not a good tour guide, so yeah that was a waste of 15 dollars, I wouldn't tell anyone to go there, but I did find out that this city was built on greed, corruption and murder which is a great beginning for a city right???? So yeah it was not a very good tour. That's all for this week talk to ya later.
Love,
Elder O'Brien

1/17/2011 News from Seattle 3rd ward

Hey all you peeps in the Sanpete Valley
Things are great, the work is great and we are teaching like crazy,
just kidding, work is slow and we have kinda hit a pot hole in the
road and is repairing it on the side of the road. Other than that
I am excited for the visit of Elder Whitney L Clayton of the pres. of
the seventy and Elder Kearon from the seventy. In case you don't know Elder Kearon he is the seventy that talked in the last general conference about how when he was young he and his parents went out in the desert and he decided to wear his sandals instead of his shoes and he got stung by a scorpion and had to be driven to the hospital by his dad, so this should be a great mtg. which happen this Saturday in Belevue. Love ya all.

Elder O'Brien

12/20/10 News from Seattle 3rd!!!

Hey family what's up,
Everything is fun here, this last week has been great, I found out that I am over all the youth for the whole stake, which means where ever there is youth I go. So I go anywhere and everywhere I want to go in the stake which is awesome.
Elder Mellor is fun, we have a lot of fun together. Did I tell you about me knowing him before? Well on my second transfer and his first transfer we told each other that we would be companions and what do ya know we are companions, cool huh?
So today I have pday which means we are headed to pikes place after emailing.
About the sword they are just small samurai swords so probably not that heavy.
Oh and the reason I want that 50 dollars is to help me buy a GPS I need about that much to buy one, because my area is roughly 30 square miles and there is no way I am ever going to be able to memorize that big of an area so if ya could send some money that would be awesome.
Anyways love ya all and have a great Christmas.
Love,
Elder O'Brien
P.S. I will call you guys when I find out where I am calling from.

12/14/10 News from Seattle 3rd!!!

Hey family,
Transfers where today and I got a new companion and a new area which I'm a little bummed because I loved Burien ward, but hey good news I made senior companion so I must be doing something right. I am also in a car which I am the driver, woot woot, my new comp's name is Elder Mellor from Orem Utah (yeah I know another one of those dang Utahans) what is it with this mission sending so many people from Utah to here (wink wink lol), so I am officially in dad's old stomping grounds downtown Seattle, so where does pappy want me to go?
These last few days have been very sad having to leave my favorite area in the whole world, the Burien ward. I got a lot of hugs, no kisses thank goodness from my Chuuk and all the people I visited, apparently I was everyone's favorite missionary because everyone gave a lot of parting gifts or maybe it is just the Christmas season, either or. But yeah my favorite family the Dacus's gave me a bunch of presents, I got a few toys and a few ties, I think one of my favorite gifts was when I was doing some service for a less active guy and when he heard that I was going he went into his bedroom and brought out not 1 not 2 but three swords and gave them to me. I told him I couldn't take them, but he said it would break his heart so I said yes and then he made a comment, think of it as my Christmas present to you from me, so yeah I might be mailing home some swords, just because I don't want to lug them all over the place and don't freak it wasn't my fault, is the season to be jolly right?
About the Christmas presents, don't need any clothing I'm good in that department, how bout I make it easy for ya, just give me 50 bucks or something like that and a few goodies and I will be happy with that.
I could use a couple more temple slips that would be nice, tho I did forget to take one to the temple this last time I went, so yeah that's all I need.
Love ya much,
Elder O'Brien

12/7/2010 Greetings from Burien!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey y'all how have you been doing,
Life is great here as usual don't have that much to report tho these past three days has been awesome. First on Saturday we had dinner with our Chuuks and they sent us home with a lot of food and then on Sunday we went to our bishop's house the Pulokas, the Tongans in our ward, and they sent us home with a lot of food. Then yesterday we went to a single's potluck and they sent us home with a lot of food. We have dinner tonight at the Dacu's an awesome family in our ward and no doubt they will sent a lot of food home with us as well, so yeah mom you you don't have to worry about your son not getting fed. Elder Armstrong and I are getting stuffed hopefully it won't put too much weight on. lol
Oh and we also was able to go to the temple today so that was as always a very spiritual experience and that is about all to report.
So ta ta.
Love ya,
Elder O'Brien
